Foxes Worldwide

The world is home to an estimated twenty-three species of foxes. And,out of those ten are called "true foxes", this includes the red fox.You can find foxes on every continent except Antarctica and Australia, but red foxes have lived in Australia since humans introduce them in 1800s.You can find the red fox through out most of North America, from northern Mexico,to the Arctic, and in Europe,Asia and North Africa. The red fox is known to be the largest Fox the European Variety  grows bigger than the northern American one.The coat on the red fox does not always stay the same red sometimes shades of reddish brown or reddish orange, or sometimes other colors such as black,or  silver, gray, or yellow.A quarter of red foxes are cross ,meaning streaked with dark fur down there back and across their shoulders.regardless of the upper -coat color, Foxes  bellies are usually white or light yellow.

You can find the gray fox in the woods and swamps of the United States, Central America, and South America the coats have patches of red on their ears, their necks ,and legs. The gray fox is the only Fox known to climb trees. The gray foxes are slightly more smaller than the North American red foxes. You will rarely see a gray fox out during the day

.The red fox and the gray fox are the most abundant types of foxes in the United States. The Arctic Fox lives along the Arctic coast, frequently on tundras in Mountainside and farther north than other land mammal.During mating time they take to shelter in burrows some that are hundreds of years old that have numerous entrances or exits. The Arctic Fox can have a litter of 15 but it usually is 7 to 11 kits.their ears are small and round making them less vulnerable  to the cold unlike the pronounced triangular pointed ears of most foxes. You will notice the paws are covered with thick for underneath as well as their body is stockier than most foxes And that is because they live in a colder climate. In summer The Arctic fox is brown or gray in  winter they turn stark white or bluish gray,in winter at which point they are called blue foxes. There is no other foxes coats that changes colors seasonally.Arctic foxes are active day and night and they do not hibernate they are largely scavengers and known for traveling a great distance at times. They will follow polar bears and feed on the remains of animals the Bears have killed. If lemmings are available, they will feed plentifully on them.Part of their diet may be birds ,eggs or squirrels.

The fennee fox is a desert fox it is the smallest fox.You can find these foxes inthe Saharah  andArabian deserts. They are 9.4 to15.7 inches 24 to 40 cm long and weigh about 1.5 to 3.5 pounds they are about 8 inches and 20.3 cm tall relatively their body size. The ears of fennee foxes are the largest among foxes. Their coat is a cream color and fluffy ,which the flex heat during the day and provides warmth on chilly desert nights. Very soles prevent their feet from getting burned by the hot desert sand sometimes they will make a burrow into the sand to stay  cool during the day and at night they hut small insects, lizards, birds.they can jump up to 2 feet high and 4 feet forward which helps them catch prey and escape predators.

The Kit fox is sometimes called the swift fox ,those some scientist believe they are separate species. They are known as the second smallest foxes, after fennec foxes. They live in the dryer parts of western Northern America you can find them in the Mojave Desert, Occupying burrows in sand dunes or under grass mounds.Their coats are pale gray, tan,or yellow.Their ears contain special hairs that block sand from getting in them. As their names implies these foxes can move swiftly over short distance and often zigzag when they run.

Rather than eat prey where they kill it kit foxes tend to bring it to their den first. These bat-eared foxes live in the open grassland Of eastern and southern Africa. They can grow to be 28 inches 70 cm and weigh between 6.6 and 10 pounds their coats are likely yellowish gray, helping them blend into their surroundings in an area that is home to many large predators. Bat-eared foxes resembles red foxes except for their large ,cupped years. There ears we'll help them find food under ground they feed all types of insects as well as small mammals, birds, eggs,or lizards.
